✨️ Loki, the mistress of the twilight! Her playful and lively nature is unique among all the leopard geckos I've cared for so far. As a juvenile, she climbed upside down on the terrarium ceiling. She often lurks on ledges, waiting to snap at me. She has a special affinity for my face and still frequently tries to snap at it today. That's why she's named Loki, which probably means "air god" or "airy". Many people only know Loki as a male name, e.g., from Norse mythology. But Loki is a gender-neutral name with many meanings. I believe that girls can define themselves just as well as boys and don't particularly believe in the need for fixed roles. However, I do think it's important that everyone can still feel comfortable in traditional roles if they want to. Authenticity is important to me. You don't always have to be honest or have complete control over yourself. Everyone can be a little bit like Loki. Keep secrets, move in the twilight, and cultivate extraordinary ambitions. That's nature, that's life. There are forces that transcend all our expectations and connect us.

✨️ Arsinoë and the other leopard geckos have been back in the terrarium for about a month now. Previously, they were housed in the basement for brumation (similar to hibernation). You can view the live webcam and terrarium data on my website (megagroundsloth.de).

Wild and Free 🌿

I consider humans to be a domesticable species that has never been domesticated, and I believe any such efforts to be fundamentally wrong.

1. Humans as a Domesticable Species

I believe it is possible to selectively reproduce humans based on certain traits and create a specific population that aligns with the fundamental characteristics of domesticated species. Evidence for this can be found in analyses of the BAZ1B gene in comparison to prehistoric Neanderthals and Denisovans. These changes are associated with softer facial features and alterations in social compatibility.

2. Humans as a Culture-Following Wild Form

I consider humans to be a species that has never been domesticated. However, their ability to create culture has led to genetic adaptations that follow cultural developments. A similar pattern can be observed in wild animals: those that have lived as culture-followers for generations exhibit genetic differences from those that have remained in their original habitats. Humans also show differences between nomadic and sedentary populations, as suggested by the concept of evolutionary mismatch related to ADHD-associated genetics and adaptation to a sedentary lifestyle. But this is not self-domestication.

3. The Wrongness of Domesticating Humans

The selective breeding of humans violates human dignity, which is inherently tied to individual self-determination and equality. From an evolutionary perspective, it also provides no sustainable benefit, as future developments are unpredictable. Any form of eugenics leads to a reduction in potentially necessary traits by limiting morphological and genetic diversity.

4. Ableism and Eugenics in Modern Societies

Authoritarian ideologies have repeatedly attempted such practices—most notably the Nazis. Even today, the eugenic movement is attempting a form of genetic population control by systematically disadvantaging people with certain traits, such as through the abolition of diversity programs.

Greater diversity, combined with technological and medical advancements, expands morphological freedom, allowing for greater adaptability to future developments and challenges.

Am I the bad guy for waking up these three brown marmorated stink bugs (Halyomorpha halys), or the good guy for letting them know in time that spring is here? 🤔

They were sleeping soundly when I opened the lounger for my sunbathing session. 😅

I first let them wake up, then I took them in my hand, from where they flew away one after the other. 😊

😜🦥🌞 I'm a cheeky sloth who lazes around in the sun!

In Germany, winter often changes into spring from one day to the next. Ten days ago I was still wearing my beanie and winter jacket and today I've been bathing in the sun shirtless for five days in a row. I've missed it a lot! I feel completely different with the light, the warmth and the birdsong. Soon the trees will have leaves again, scents will flood my senses and make everything seem fertile and alive.

🏃‍♂️🌞 I started running again after a 4-year break.

🦥💨 Twice a week is definitely enough!

✨️ Endurance sports release happiness hormones!

😅 You can see from my face that I almost have an overdose of happiness.

😁💫 At least I'm happy to be motivated again! At the moment I can only manage a tenth of the distance I did 4 years ago, but I'll get better.

😮‍💨❤️‍🔥 The last (first) time I had to take a break because I was out of breath, so I split the route into two sections.

🦵💢 Today I ran a longer distance and all in one go, and my only limit was the pain in my calves but no longer my breath.

😄💯 The pain probably explains the look on my face. I still had a long way to go home. But next time I'll manage the whole circuit in one go!

🐍 Year of the Snake

✨️ Master your reactions and examine your feelings. Do not passively endure - transform suffering into strength. Not all pain has meaning. Sometimes, it's up to us to give it meaning through our own choices and responses. True wisdom lies in discerning whether to endure, resist, or walk away.

🔥 We have the power to shape our experiences and find meaning, even in hardship. What is to give light must endure burning. But that does not make us masters over others, only ourselves. You cannot learn to see in the night - but you can sharpen your senses and a new morning is sure to come.
